A Crescent Yum Cha spread ready to share around the table

Food first.
Always.

Our story

Crescent exists to make genuinely good Yum Cha easier for more people to enjoy at home.

The freezer aisle could do better.

Slinging dumplings at events across Australia since 2008

After years of developing, serving and testing Yum Cha, we knew what made the restaurant experience worth coming back for. We wanted food that felt generous, tasted worth sharing and worked in a real home kitchen.

A hard question from an old mate.

The invitation

A long-standing family friend asked whether we could create a halal range. It was not a cosmetic change. Traditional recipes commonly used pork and pork lard, so doing the job properly meant rebuilding the products rather than relabelling them.

Rebuild it. Test it. Keep going.

The work

Our original range was developed with an experienced, award-winning dim sum chef, without pork or pork lard and with flavour and texture kept front of mind. We then tested the food directly through events and food trucks, listening, adjusting and putting the dumplings in front of people again.

Members of the Muslim community helped us understand the processes and commitments involved in creating the halal range. Crescent operates a 100% dedicated halal kitchen. We use no pork or non-halal ingredients, and all our chicken, beef and lamb is 100% hand-slaughtered.

More tables. Less fuss.

Why frozen

Frozen retail created a way to move beyond constant weekend events, spend more time with family and reach more people. The chef, the community, friends and years of honest tasting all helped shape the range.

That is still the standard: product first, straight answers and Yum Cha made easier at home.

Yum Cha. Now everyone's invited.

What Crescent stands for

Proper Yum Cha should be easier for more people to enjoy at home, without needing a restaurant budget. It is shared food: family, friends and community around one table.
